LSD is a highly impactful viral disease causing fever, debilitating skin nodules, reduced milk production, and emaciation. Lumpyvax, containing the SIS Neethling-type virus, provides robust active immunity, with protection developing within three weeks of a single 1ml subcutaneous dose. It can be safely administered to pregnant cows and requires annual booster vaccinations. Crucial for herd health, especially in endemic areas like South Africa.
