Brucella Abortus S19 is a live attenuated vaccine for female cattle, specifically to prevent bovine brucellosis (contagious abortion). In South Africa, it's compulsory for heifer calves aged 4-8 months (single dose).

It uses a weakened Brucella abortus strain to induce immunity. Crucially, it must NOT be given to older animals, pregnant animals, or bulls, due to risks of test interference, abortion, or sterility. It carries a zoonotic risk for humans, requiring careful handling. A 21-day meat withdrawal applies.
