Bru-Tect S19 is a live, weakened vaccine for female cattle, specifically preventing bovine brucellosis (contagious abortion). Manufactured by Design Biologix, its use is compulsory by law in South Africa for heifer calves aged 4-8 months (single subcutaneous dose).

This vaccine uses the Brucella abortus Strain 19 to induce immunity. Crucially, it must NOT be administered to older animals, pregnant animals (risk of abortion), or bulls (risk of sterility). It also poses a zoonotic risk to humans if mishandled, requiring strict safety protocols. A 21-day meat withdrawal period applies.
